But, unless your credit card is pre-approved, you do not get the card instantly right after submitting the application. Once you have submitted the application, it undergoes scrutiny by the bank officials who first evaluate your eligibility for the card, and then, if deemed eligible, decide the credit limit of your credit card. This whole process takes time and during this time many of us get impatient and wish to know the status of our application. Each credit card issuer has its own process for checking the status of a new card application.

Possible Statuses of Your Credit Card Application

Once you have submitted your credit card application, the status of your application keeps changing based on its progress. For example, upon checking the status of your application, you may find that it is still under review or has been approved/disapproved. For most credit card issuers, your application will have one of the following statuses at any given time-

  • No Records Found: This is the message you see if you enter incorrect details, such as the wrong reference number, PAN, or mobile number while checking your application status. It indicates that there are no records matching the details you entered in the bank’s database.
  • On Hold: This status indicates that you have either not provided all the documents necessary to process your application or the card issuer was unable to verify your documents. In such a case, the card issuer might ask you to submit some additional documents (if required) or furnish the already submitted documents afresh with the correct details.
  • In Progress: This status indicates that the card issuer has yet to decide on your application—it has neither been approved nor disapproved.
  • Approved: This status means that your credit card application has been successfully processed and approved, and your credit card will be dispatched shortly to your correspondence address.
  • Disapproved: This status indicates that your credit card application has been rejected by the issuer. There can be many reasons for rejection, including incomplete documents, mismatch of information provided by you, and that on KYC documents, but the most common reason for application rejection/disapproval is not meeting the eligibility criteria.
  • Dispatched: This is the status of your credit card application after it has been approved and the card has been successfully dispatched to your address.
